Geographical Indication

An geographical indication is a country’s and locality’s geographical name that is used to indicate the origin of goods from that country or locality provided that the goods have the characteristics or qualities reflecting the specific and advantageous geographical conditions of natural and human characters or the combination thereof (Art.786 The Civil Code).

Protection title for an geographical indication is the certificate of the right to use the geographical indication with the term of validity beginning on the date of granting, expiring at the end of 10 years counted from the officially filing date and renewable indefinitely for consecutive terms of 10 years.
